The Zamboanga State College of Marine Sciences and Technology has been identified and designated as Center of Excellence in Fisheries in accordance with CHED Memorandum Order (CMO) No. 38, series of 2015.
In Region IX, ZSCMST is the only Higher Education institution among private and public State Colleges and Universities to get the title “Center for Excellence in Fisheries.” This materialized when the college underwent evaluation through the very effort of the College President Dr. Milavel Depacaquivo-Nazario whose thrust is to bring the college to greater heights.
Dr. Nazario’s vision of COE shaped up through the willpower and determination of the incontestable collaborative effort of the Dean of the College of Fisheries and Applied Sciences, Prof. Oliver D. Tito and the faculty and students to grab the title and is now to be celebrated.

Center of Excellence is designated to ZSCMST because it continuously demonstrate excellent performance and highest degree or level of standards among the public and private Higher Education Institutions. ZSCMST College of Fisheries and Applied Sciences continuously demonstrates and manifests this excellent performance. With this, the college benefits financial assistance on projects geared towards the improvement of the fishery program and implementation of such project should conform to the policies stipulated in the CHED Memorandum Order. The grants given to projects are allocated for instructional and research capability building, research projects andnetworking, extension and linkages activities. In return, it is expected that the College will take the lead in uplifting the quality of education in the field of responsibility which is the Fisheries.
Since Zamboanga State College of Marine Sciences and Technology is designated to be the Center of Excellence, the college serves as the role model in Fisheries Education in the entire Region IX, institutional leader in all aspects of development in Fisheries, and accelerate the development of the aforementioned program through strategic developmental agenda and projects.
